Russian/Caucasus bos urus ????

Inquiry from Jean-Michel Thizy

In many descriptions of Russian/Caucasus natural parks, e,g,
www.1911encyclopedia.org/C/CA/CAUCASIA.htm
among MANY, mention is made of bos urus.

I suspect that it stems from promotional zeal as well as a Russian/East
European tradition of translating European Bison=wisent as aurochs, which
looked up in a dictionary, renders as bos urus.

Thank you for an insight or source about it.
