Dear Sir,

I found your names on the internet searching for addresses of experts on
cattle breeds.
The Geldersch Landschap is a Provincial NGO in the Province of Gelderland
dealing with nature conservation and preservation of Geldern cultural
heritage in the Netherlands. Our foundation owns some 150 nature reserves
with some 30 castles, dozens of farms and other historic buildings. Some
11.000 hectares are managed for preservation for future generations. One of
many projects we are dealing with is the conservation of rare breeds from
the Province of Gelderland. For example we own three herds of the rarest
Dutch cattle breed the Deep red cattle and one of nine flocks Veluwe
heideschaap (heath-land sheep). You find more information about our
foundation on:  <http://www.mooigelderland.nl/> http://www.mooigelderland.nl/
Some 100 years ago there was another cattle breed which now has become
extinct: heath-land cattle. Recently we started a project to investigate the
possibility for reintroduction of a look-alike breed rebred from similar
breeds abroad especially from breeds in Northern and Western Europe. Please
find enclosed a short draft of the project and some pictures of our extinct
heath-land cattle.
I have several questions:
-          Are there cattle breeds in your country that matches (more or
less) the description of our ancient heat-land breed we could use in our
breeding program?
-          When yes: Do you have addresses of breeders that could sell us
some specimen of this particular breed?
-          Is your local breed still in use in grazing nature reserves,
especially heath-lands and do you have addresses of organisations owning
these area?
-          Have you any knowledge of early contacts (before 1850) of trade
or cattle-drifts to Holland with your local breeds?
Thanking you in advance for answering,

Ir. Wim Geraedts
